United States of Tara is an American dark comedy television drama created by Diablo Cody and produced by DreamWorks Television, which began airing on Showtime in 2009 and the second season concluded in 2010. The series follows the life of Tara (Toni Collette), a suburban housewife and mother coping with dissociative identity disorder. The show's third season is scheduled to premiere on March 28, 2011.[2] The series, based on an idea by Steven Spielberg, is the executive producer along with series' head writer Diablo Cody (co-showrunner, season 2-present), Jill Soloway (co-showrunner, season 2-present), Alexa Junge (showrunner, season 1), Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Eduardo Peixoto, and Craig Zisk (season 2-present).
